The tiny lights
You light up the world
With your tiny hands and toes
 Your contagious giggles
 Your small button nose.
When people see you they smile
 They feel immense joy
You take them back to a time
With their own girl or boy.
 Grandparents, uncles
 A sister or cousin
 You have the same effect
 On one or a dozen.
 The joy ripple goes further
 It effects strangers too
At the supermarket, the gas station
Coming out of the public loo.
It doesn’t matter who you meet
Or the sort of day they’ve had
 Your smile lights them up
They see the good, not the bad.
You don’t know any of this yet
 You’re so blissfully unaware
Of your pleasing influence on others
 From afar and from near.
For your mothers it’s sometimes easier
When they’re in a complete rush
To go to town without you
To do the shopping without a fuss.
But they need to always remember
 Despite the further time required
The joy your presence can bring
To the young, the old and the retired.
You are the present and the future
You remind others of their past
Children you light up the world.
 Forever may it last.
